How to Check the Condition of the Tires?

Do you know how to check the condition of the tires without going to a workshop?

The truth is that the quality and condition of the tires influence the driving more than any other element of the car. After all, they are the only part of the vehicle in contact with the asphalt.

According to figures provided by FESVIAL , 55% of accidents involving fatalities that occur on our roads for reasons related to the vehicle, have in common the poor condition of the tires.

Do not worry

In this article, we will explain how to check the condition of the tires in a simple and effective way. For more detailed guide, check out  tiredealersites.com and for additional info.

Let’s start with the theory.

Tire depth

In accordance with the regulations in force in Spain, the minimum depth that the drawing must have a tire is 1.6 mm.

Below that limit, you will not only be taking a serious risk while driving, but you will be breaking the law.

In fact, an eventual review of the ITV will lead to the immobilization of the vehicle and the corresponding administrative sanction.

But that is not all

Regardless of the limit established by law, the main manufacturers recommend not to ride on tires whose drawing does not reach a depth of 3 mm.

This is because, from that limit, the tire’s ability to evacuate water is markedly reduced, so that winter circulation becomes very dangerous and the possibility of suffering aquaplanning is increased.

How to examine the drawing of a tire

Examining the drawing of a tire is simple if you know where to look and the right instruments are available.

The standard procedure involves:

  • Stop the vehicle on a flat and homogeneous pavement.
  • Set the parking brake.
  • Turn the steering wheel to facilitate the examination of the rear tires.
  • Proceed to examine the witnesses of the tire.
  • Perform the measurement with a depth gauge.

Tire wear indicator

The signs of tire wear are the most common and simple method to quickly check the condition of the tires.

There are, however, many types of witnesses, so you should know them all or, at least, familiarize yourself with those used in the tires of your car.

Taco rubber witness

This is a 1.6 mm thick rubber block present at the bottom of the longitudinal channels of the tire.

By the time the tread has reached the level of the block, the tire has reached the legal limit and has to be replaced.

Classic witness

The classic witness is a small symbol that is located on the flank of the tire and usually has the following forms:

Obviously, when this symbol begins to deteriorate, it means that the tread has lost the necessary thickness.

Digital wear indicator

It is an original alternative to the classic witnesses or tacos. It consists of several numbers whose progressive disappearance warns of tire wear.

Witnesses of intermediate wear

This is a complementary witness, added by some manufacturers, to warn that the tread has worn out noticeably and its wet performance is no longer optimal.

Depth measurement

The witnesses constitute a quick resource to check the wear of a tire. However, they do not replace a correct depth measurement.

WHEEL REPAIR: HOW IMPORTANT AND HOW IT WORKS

Everyone knows that it is crucial to have a car with wheels in good condition. But how to do it? What should we do then if they crumple? Today the subject is Wheel Repair : Importance and How It Works.

Before we talk about Wheel Repair, let’s take a look at the car’s own structure. The wheels are quite different from the tires .

It is they who first receive the shaft and the engine power. They are also responsible for acting in support of the car. But why tires are needed?

So the tires are the part that make it easy to remove all friction from the car with the asphalt. Let’s say you need to push a broken car. You may have realized that it is not that difficult.

But if you tried to do the same process without the tires, you would have to be strong enough not only to handle the full weight of the car, but also to compensate for friction with the ground.

When we have a wrinkled or non-standard wheel we end up with tire problems. This is why wheel maintenance is so necessary.

Poorly adjusted wheels will make it difficult even to make a straight line. This ends up taking stability and bringing problems such as high fuel consumption.

Wheel Repair: Importance and How It Works

wheel repairWhen you do not take care of the repair of the wheels it is quite possible that you are at the mercy of accelerated tire wear. Some inexpensive procedures that would correct the problem if ignored can be costly.

A good example is alignment that, if not up to date, will hinder performance. This can lead to high fuel consumption and accelerated tire wear. But perhaps the worst problem is security.

Misaligned cars can suddenly pull sideways, which is bad for the driver.

But the wheel can also be damaged and end up with broken and dented parts. However there is no reason to panic, if you do not delay there are easy ways to solve the problem.

The most that can happen is to need a special grease or solder in place. The problem is that ignoring this repair damages the tires and various parts that surround the axle. Without taking away the loss of control.

But there are cases where the value of the repair may show that it is better to buy a new wheel. Not only for the price itself, but it will show you that a quality repair will be difficult.

Just be aware if you really need to put alloy wheels in your car. Although the aesthetic appeal is large, they often have much less resistance.

Having a wrinkled wheel in the middle of the road can be dangerous, but at the very least it will give you a big headache.

Imagine being tens of kilometers from any city and simply noticing that you have an empty tire. A wrinkled wheel can create this problem almost suddenly.

So don’t be silly and always take care of your vehicle, especially the wheels. This will give you more security and economy to run around.
